Christians in a Jewish State, Israel

Reverend Barry Denison, Vice President of International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, wrote to me how he feels about the hostages. When he thinks of them, he cries every day. Also, he thinks of the victims and their families as well. ICEJ supports those who are in need by supplying aids, food and providing bomb shelters to people. There are more that ICEJ contributes for Israeli people.

Christianity has roots and history in Jerusalem, as well. I am able to understand half of what he was speaking in an interview in Portuguese when he had an interview with a radio station but it was quite fascinating to hear the history of Jerusalem, Israel and Christianity in his words. I asked Rev. Barry if I could write about him and his activities. He said, “yes, why not. I live in Israel and I’m not going to hide anywhere.”

This is a very difficult question for me to ask Israeli people. When I talk with various people, I try not to ask about their friends and relatives unless they talk about it. Now, I have to care about how to write the birthday messages and messages of blessings…

To be honest, I feel very scared to ask people who are supporting Israeli people at this hard time what happened to his friends. Do you those who are laughing at Israeli people think that they’re in rage against Israel? Please never forget what radical Isalamic militants, not just Hamas did to Israeli people on October 7th. They were doing all these horrible acts with pleasure.

Earlier this year, Rev. Barry visited Kfir Biba‘s family’s home in Kibbutz Nir Oz. He was saying that the aftermath of October 7th was just devastating. Kfir Bibas was only 10 months old when he was kidnapped by Hamas. When I wrote about this, there were people commenting me, “He’ll be treated well by Hamas pals.” Rev. Barry wrote to me that he was shocked to Kfir’s terribly destroyed. ICEJ donated an ambulance to the community.

ICEJ has helped the community build a forest in Kibbutz Be’eri area. ICEJ helped form Kibbutz Be’eri build a natural park, which was also horribly devastated and hundreds of people were murdered. The people who survived are going through terrible physical and mental trauma.

ICEJ has helped the communities near Gaza for many years, providing bomb shelters, security radios, fire fighting equipments, and helped build a park in Kfir Aza. On October 5th, people from ICEJ started planting trees to make a park. The areas around the park became one of the breakthrough for the terrorists to surround the music festival.

Hamas poured into the site of the music festival and thousands of vulnerable people who were enjoying the music were attacked by Hamas and other militants. This included employees of UNWRA and Gaza civilians who joined Hamas. Do you remember Shani Louk? She was dancing and enjoying music at the music festival. Her back bone was broken to fit into the pickup truck and was paraded around Gaza. People were spitting on her and taking photos with their smart phones.

ICEJ executive stated right after October 7th, “The time has come where it’s not enough anymore to say, ‘Israel, we love you. We stand with you. This is the time where real actions are needed. We call upon all the churches around the world to dedicate themselves.”

Before asking about his friends, Rev. Barry said to me that he cries every time when he thinks of the hostages in Gaza. He is gathering Christians and pray for the hostages in Gaza, advocating for them. He is also acquainted with the relatives of the hostages but I would like to refrain from directly mention who they are.

I had a heavy hart but on October 7th, I actually texted several people who live in Israel and who have had relatives in Israel what happened to them. Fortunately, the people I texted were safe. However, there was devastation and fury among people. This is not just a murder or crossfire as the media often refers to when they report the terror incident in Israel.

After asking about his religious networks and ICEJ and his prayers for the hostages, I have finally asked Rev. Barry if he lost his friends as I already heard Rev. Barry’s friend talking about losing one of his close friends from Kibuttz Be’eri. Rev. Barry lost his friends on October 7th. One of them was Ofir Libstein, the head of Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council. I would like to write a little about Mayor Ofir, as he calls.

On October 5th, in Sderot, over 500 Christians from 70 countries were with Ofir Libstein. ICEJ Feast of Tabernacles event there.

The remarks of Mayor Ofir Libstein on October 5th, 2023:

“First of all, welcome again, to Sha’ar HaNegev, you have been here last year and I hope to see you, again, next year. … I promise to do anything to keep the land of Israel, to keep the land of this area and build it stronger and be stronger, and I’m so happy to see you all from all over the world. They have come to see this beautiful place. Thank you very much.”

He expressed gratitude to the Christians present at the event and, in return, Mayor Ofir Libstein invited everyone to return in Sukkoth this year. This is never to be realized with Ofir Libstein. As Rev. Barry recalls, he was a very kind, open-minded and responsible person. Rev. Barry was shocked to find that Mayor Ofir Libstein was one of the first to be murdered as he tried to protect the community on October 7th, just two days after the event.

ICEJ’s connection to the community is not just goodwill activities but care about people who were devastated on October 7th. Rabbi had some blessings for people and Christian people felt the blessings of the Lord. The site of the atrocity was the place where they had dinner and lunch, Christian people and Jewish people, together.

Do you tolerate all the atrocities, mutilate, burn alive, torture, rape,… I can’t write enough?

Hamas and other radical Islamic militants were committing all these atrocities, laughing, with pleasure.

Among them, there were UNWRA teachers. It was not only six of them as ICJ ruled.

This was far from enough.

Just yesterday, a Jewish woman was stabbed in Australia where there are a lot of Jewish residents. She unfortunately lost her life, protecting her baby.

Do people think these Hamas advocates, those who are screaming Intifada, are just radical protestors? They will go after Jewish people with consequences and we, as a whole, have to care about Jewish people.

Israel is the only Jewish state in the world. However, there is a total disinformation about religious persecutions in Israel. Christians may not be Jewish but they can co-exist as Zionist to form Israel like Rev. Barry and what ICEJ is doing. Rev. Barry is a Bible-believing Christian. He is always faithful to his religion throughout his life.

My honest voice? Please don’t lie about Israel, calling “a country that persecutes people.”
